Organizing

As teachers, there are a lot of things we must accomplish each week (grading, lesson plans, filling out forms, copying, etc.). Then there are all the great things we want to make for our classrooms.  Finding the time to do all this is difficult to say the least.  Some things just don't get done.  So, after thinking about this problem, I realized it would be better to create a "schedule" of when to do things.  No, I'm not talking about an hour-by-hour schedule.
This is mine:

  • Monday: Work on making items for class.
  • Tuesday: Laminate/Cut out items
  • Wednesday: Grade papers
  • Thursday: Lesson Plans
  • Friday: Make copies for following week.
I choose to make my copies on Friday afternoons because it enables me to have everything ready for the next week.  It always amazes me at how many times I see other teachers scrambling to make copies each morning.  Yes, I am guilty of that at times; however, I try not to wait until the last minute.  There is nothing wrong with planning ahead of time, so that more time can be spent on instruction!

I've been really looking into the Daily 5 Cafe for my class.  Although Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers have a lot of great material, I would really like to know how others implement this in their own classrooms.
